A farmers’ protest in Longowal disrupted events involving Aam Aadmi Party state president and cabinet minister Aman Arora after farmers gathered to question him directly.
Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Azad first assembled near one programme venue and then moved to another after learning where the minister would appear. Police deployed a large force around the second location as farmers raised slogans against the government and administration.
Union representatives said they wanted answers rather than a confrontation. They alleged that political leaders were avoiding basic public questions and criticised the use of heavy security to manage an elected representative’s public engagement.
Those allegations are the farmers’ position and require attribution. The immediate civic issue is how elected officials can meet organised groups that want explanations about procurement, protest cases and rural policy without converting every meeting into a security operation.
Open question-and-answer sessions, written commitments and follow-up dates would give both sides a more accountable route than competing slogans outside an event venue.
