A transformer failure left parts of Pathankot’s Kandi area without regular electricity for about four days, prompting residents to block the road at Phangota Chowk and protest against the power department and government.
Residents said supply, when briefly restored, came at low voltage and was not sufficient for normal work. The outage also disrupted drinking-water supply, affected shops and increased concern during the rainy season, when households face both darkness and the risk of poisonous insects at night.
Protesters warned that they would expand the action to the Pathankot-Chamba national highway if the problem was not resolved. The disruption therefore became both a utility issue and a transport issue for the wider area.
The junior engineer at the Dunera 33-kV substation said the local transformer had failed. A temporary supply was being provided from the Bhatwan feeder of the Dhar Kalan 66-kV substation, with a replacement transformer promised. A similar outage had also led to anger in the Haryal area.
The episode underlines why emergency power plans should include water supply, clear public updates and a firm restoration timeline, not only a temporary connection.
